What Goes Into Pool Installation?

If you’ve been thinking of installing a custom pool, you probably can’t wait to spend your days floating in your backyard. However, there’s a process you’ll need to go through first.

Once you understand what goes into pool installation, you’ll have a better idea of how long it will take before you can schedule your first pool party. While the specifics will vary depending on the type of pool you choose, the general process is the same. Here’s a brief overview of what you can expect.

1. Project Design & Permitting

The first step is to meet with a pool design expert to decide on the type of pool you want to install. Once we have an idea of your goals, we’ll survey your backyard and provide you with a detailed plan proposal. Upon your approval, we’ll get started with your pool installation.

2. Layout & Excavation

Prior to beginning any pool construction, it’s necessary to pull all the proper permits. Our construction experts will also meet with you at your home to review the plan and ensure you understand exactly what goes into pool installation.

We’ll also locate all underground utility lines before staking out the outline of your pool and beginning the excavation process.

3. Pool Construction

Once the land has been excavated, we’ll reinforce the area with structural steel, then pour concrete or gunite to form the pool shell. During this stage, we’ll also add your underground plumbing and the pool’s tile and coping.

4. Electrical and Gas Installation

You’ll need electricity to run your pool equipment and lights. This requires running electrical conduits to the equipment location. If you plan to run your heater on gas, you may need to have gas lines run at this time as well.

5. Pool Deck Installation

By the time you reach this phase, most of what goes into pool installation is already done! Now, it’s time to install your pool deck. This process will vary depending on the style and material you choose for your pool deck.

6. Clean-Up and Prep

Now that the bulk of your pool construction is done, we’ll spend some time cleaning up after ourselves. This includes removing any leftover construction materials. We’ll also take the necessary steps to prepare your pool’s interior for finishing.

7. Enclosure and Fencing

In the state of North Carolina, all inground pools are required to be surrounded by a four-foot or higher fence. If you don’t already have a fence or pool enclosure, you’ll need to have one installed before you can add water to your pool.

During this time, you’ll also want to add any additional alarms or safety features you plan to use with your new pool.

8. Interior Finishing

Now, you’re in the home stretch! Coating the interior of your pool is the final step of what goes into pool installation. The process will vary depending on the type of finish you choose. Once it’s done, you’re ready to fill your pool with water!

9. Testing & Orientation

Before we turn your new pool over to you, we’ll fire everything up and ensure it all works as it should. We’ll also review the pool maintenance requirements and show you how to troubleshoot common problems.

It’s important to us to make sure every customer is completely comfortable before we leave. However, if you have additional questions, you’ll also have ongoing access to our customer service department.
